Harmony Project Family Ties

For Caroline, Cristal, Yoselin, Marisela, and Stephanie, music is a shared journey that has strengthened their family’s bond in remarkable ways. Each one has chosen their own instrument and found a unique connection to music, but together, they’ve discovered a way to learn, grow, and support each other through the Harmony Project.

Caroline, 14, plays the violin and finds that music helps her focus and explore different genres. She loves how playing music deepens her connection to her culture and brings her closer to her family, forming a language they all understand. “I get to play music from my own culture and share that with my family because I know it makes them feel good that I am learning my own culture,” explained Caroline. “Playing music helps strengthen our bond."

Cristal,12, chose the guitar because she loves its rhythm, finding that music brings her a sense of calm and joy. Playing the guitar gives Cristal her own space to be herself, and she values the friendships she’s made through the Harmony Project.

Yoselin, 10, shares Caroline’s love for the violin, but for her, music is all about the thrill of performing. She loves getting on stage and turning her nerves into confidence, using music as a means to express herself.

Marisela, 10, also plays the violin and finds it a relaxing but exciting challenge.  "I picked playing the violin because it's one of the harder instruments and I like an obstacle,” articulated Maricela. Through the Harmony Project, she’s enjoyed meeting new people and is self driven to improve as each week of instruction passes.

Stephanie, 8, chose the guitar after seeing someone else play it and fell in love with its sound. She dreams of becoming a singer one day, and each lesson is a step toward that goal, with her sisters cheering her on. Stephanie relishes any chance she can perform. “I like that Harmony Project gives me the opportunity to perform in front of large audiences," expressed Stephanie.

Together, they are learning that music is more than notes and rhythms—it’s a way to build memories, friendships, and a strong family bond as they grow through music. "I've been lucky to meet so many new people through Harmony Project,” said Cristal.
