LA-based nonprofit Harmony Project launches collaboration with KIT KAT® brand for Black Music Month

June is Black Music Month and Los Angeles music education nonprofit Harmony Project is proud to partner with the KIT KAT® brand to celebrate Black musical influences that comprise an essential part of our nation's treasured cultural heritage. Black Music Month is an opportunity to recognize, honor, and amplify Black musicians and creators' impact within American pop culture. Harmony Project is one of six nationwide nonprofits collaborating with the KIT KAT® brand, who have been identified as bringing positive change and opportunities for Black youth through music.

Representing Los Angeles, Harmony Project provides high-quality music instruction and social support to children year-round at no cost. Through Harmony Project’s network of world-class instructors, college success programming, and continuous opportunities for advancement, Harmony Project motivates youth to achieve their greatest aspirations and cultivate the human potential of our communities. Harmony Project is LA’s largest music education organization dedicated exclusively to youth from low-income families and under-resourced communities.

“Music education and empowering youth to connect through music is at the core of everything we do at the Harmony Project,” said Executive Director Natalie Jackson. “We envision a world where all youth have equal access to opportunities to make music and the resources needed to thrive in college and beyond. This Black Music Month, we were excited to partner with the KIT KAT® brand to further our mission while celebrating and honoring the contributions of Black artists to the culture of not only our Los Angeles community but our nation as a whole.”

As part of this celebration that highlights the impact Black music has on American society, the KIT KAT® brand has partnered with Black artists to develop limited-edition packages that tell the stories of some of the key cities at the epicenter of Black American music - New York, New Orleans, D.C., Detroit, Los Angeles, and Memphis. The limited-edition packages are now available in vendors nation-wide and will be on shelves, while supplies last.

Listed below are the six participating nonprofit organizations in the nation-wide campaign and the music genres that are native to their respective cities.

  • Los Angeles – Hip Hop and G-Funk; Partner: Harmony Project
