Drop-out rates are greater than 50% for the demographic that makes up most of Harmony Project’s enrollment, yet 100% of Harmony Project students remain enrolled in school, and Harmony Project maintains long waiting lists. The LA Times estimates the cost of school drop-out to the City of LA as $200,000 per student (minimum).

Children who participate are more likely to become productive members of society.
Additionally, the simple act of learning to play an instrument allows a child’s brain to develop in complex ways unique only to music because of the numerous tasks involved which include music reading, aural stimulation, use of motor skills, involvement in cooperative activities, and development of expression and sensitivity. Furthermore, music provides children with an outlet for their thoughts and emotions, encouraging them to become creative individuals.
