BEYOND THE BELL

Through a partnership with LAUSD's Beyond the Bell Branch, we were able to begin our third community site this past April. At-risk youth whose families earn less than 185% of the federal poverty level are provided instruments and after-school music classes twice-a-week on the campus of their own school, and sign a contract to practice their instruments at least five days-a-week.

On Saturdays, these music students from specific four-school “hubs” are brought together for a fun and challenging 3-hour ‘Music Boot Camp / Youth Orchestra’ program.

A skilled Parent Programs Coordinator provides orientation and ongoing educational programs for parents (at monthly “potluck dinners”), to help parents learn how to better support their kids’ progress, and to improve fundamental family dynamics.

Harmony Project is unique in that we commit to our students for their entire childhood. Kids enter the program in grades 1 – 3, are re-enrolled annually, and new 1st and 2nd graders are added every year. Harmony Project partners with the LA Unified School District to continue the program with our students as they move into their middle schools.
